The End

What an incredible experience! It was so easy...
40 days is a long time, but in some ways not long enough. We are not tired, and willing to get in the car and go again. The journey was a great learning experience...about forests and communities and about us. I realized that what annoys me the most about my spouse is what makes us good partners, so yes we are still married. I guess even us old folks can learn something about life and love. We will stay a little closer to home for a while and plan the next adventure. Thanks for following us on our 40 days and 40 nights for 40 years drive to Alaska and back!

enjoying travel photos

We enjoyed our visit with The West's. Did a little back to school shopping and they graciously sat through 950 out of sequence travel photos. Chet and I loved reliving our adventure and explaining where the pictures were taken...not sure they were as thrilled as we were. You could be next!...

winding down

We are in Cumberland and will be here for two nights...
Reflections...
Good Bad things that happened on the trip:
1. Forgot the piece I needed to transfer pictures to the Ipad, but figuring out the solution and resolving the issue was interesting and alls well that ends well.
2. Did you near about Chet loosing his cell phone in a Kansas rest stop?...well he didn't know he lost it until Justin called us to tell us someone had the phone. It seems a man found it in the parking lot and started calling numbers until he got someone...so if you had a missed call from us a few days ago, that may have been the kind stranger. We called Chet's phone and made arrangements with the phone finder to meet at the next rest stop. Nice man...hopefully we can return the favor to a stranger soon...pay it forward:)
3. Linda got stopped by the Idaho state police...this was the conversation:
Police-Mam do you know why I pulled you over?
Linda-Yes, officer, I was going too fast.
Police-Yes Mam, you were doing 73 in a 65 speed zone. Where are you folks from ?(We had given him the registration and drivers license)
Linda- Maryland
Police- What brings you to Idaho?
Linda-Well, we are on a 40 day/40 night driving trip fro our 40th wedding anniversary and we are on our way home from Alaska.
Police-(smiled) Sorry to have delayed your trip. Have a nice day!
4. Chet would probably include camping:)

OHIO

If you are not a relation, you will not 'get' this posting...We had a nice visit with Een. She fixed early supper for us and then we went to see what Scott had done to Day and Addie's house, checked out the park progress, visited Burt for a short while and then went to Betty and Paul's. It is fair week and the movie theater in Wheelersburg has a sign on the marquee: "Closed for Fair week". Megan and her daughter Natalie and on the front page of the Portsmouth Times riding a carousel at the fair. (The Scioto Co fair is 10 times bigger than the Charles Co fair...at least!!). We are in Ashland, KY tonight...we might sneak into Cumberland tomorrow and not tell anyone we are there...shh.
