The area south of Anchorage was fantastic. We drove to Seward, which is a quaint (for Alaska) fishing village, past Cook inlet, mud flats,
snow streaked mountains and vivid green valleys. The mud flats are fascinating, but extremely dangerous.
The flats look so inviting to go out and explore as the tide recedes, but the locals tell harrowing stories of people getting stuck in the glacial silt that is more difficult to get out of than quick sand. Tonight we are in Seward. We will try to catch the ferry from Whittier to Valdez
tomorrow.
